German trip proves learning experience

HOCKEY: Scotland under-16 girls’ hockey team had a tough learning experience on a trip to Mannheim in Germany. With some players unavailable due to exams, the Scots lost 15-1 to Germany, 15-0 to Holland and suffered just a little less bruising 3-0 reverse to Belgium. Millie Brown (Fetes College) scored the lone Scottish goal.

In addition to the exam disruption, Lucy Ramsay (Kelso High) and Zoe Sinclair (Wellington School) were injured against a very physical Dutch side, leaving the squad substantially depleted for the Belgium game. Next up is an end of June trip to Belfast and matches against Ulster and All Ireland . At the start of next month is the all-awaited meeting with England at Stirling.

This week, the girls’ domestic season comes to an end with the under 18 Scottish Cup final between Watsonians and Cala. The Watsonians team includes four under-16 internationalists in Catriona McLellan (George Watson’s College) and the Kelso High School trio of Claire Hill and the Ramsay twins, Gina and Lucy.
