Golf: Caithness catapults into contention

KRYSTLE Caithness surged into a share of fifth place after a third-round six-under-par 66 at the UniCredit German Open at Gut Haursen. On seven under par, she is tied with England's former world No.1 Laura Davies, and just four strokes behind leader Ashleigh Simon.

Simon, from South Africa, shot 64 and stood on 11 under par, one better than England's Melissa Reid.

Caithness, 21, in her second year on the Ladies' European Tour, birdied four of the first eight holes to be out in 32 and added more birdies at the 10th, 12th and 16th in the second half. Her only blemish was a bogey at the 14th. Her best result on the LET as a rookie was fifth place in last year's Irish Open, and she won an unofficial event, the Dubai Ladies' Pro-am.
