Hockey: Grove edge out Western to retain trophy

GROVE retained the women's Arthur McKay Scottish Cup with a 2-1 win over their great rivals Milne Craig Western.

Grove went ahead in 15 minutes when the Western defence failed to clear. The ball fell to Aimee Clarke and her pass was driven home by Louise Baxter.

The contest looked over two minutes into the second half when a short free hit found Ali Bell, her awkward cut-back was dispatched past Amy Gibson by Linda Clement for Grove's second. The set-back seemed to rally Western and at their fifth penalty corner the ball was switched to Susan McGilveray whose volley flew high past Anna Schwartz off a defender`s stick.
