Holy Cross will start as favourites

HOLY CROSS are expected to start slight favourites in tonight's Edinburgh Parks Cricket Trophy final with Murrayfield DAFS at Newfield (6.00pm).

When the teams met earlier this month in East League Division One Holy Cross posted a 56-run victory and they also sit marginally above their rivals in the table.

However, it is Murrayfield DAFS who have more recent final experience (2004) while Luke Hayes is a potential match winner with a league century to his name this season.

Similarly, Charlie Ellis has also posted a three-figure score for Holy Cross in the league while Shannon Bonfield is Division One's top wicket taker so far with 19 and two ahead of club-mate Robin Worsnip.

To reach the final of a tournament which was first played in 1891 Murrayfield DAFS bowled out Drummond Trinity for 87 with Mel Clinch taking 3-7 then chased down the total with almost four overs to spare.

For Holy Cross a final place was secured by defeating Scottish Widows who were dismissed for 71 with debutant Gary Trewartha returning figures of 5-6.
