Houston deal problems are 'bridgeable'

Derek RIORDAN'S switch to Houston Dynamo remains alive but depends on the two parties negotiating a "bridgeable" difference in demands.

An individual involved in talks over the transfer of Riordan to Texas stresses that the Hibs striker has been offered a "good opportunity" to sample Major League Soccer on a significant pay packet.

The source said: "It's a good offer and a good opportunity. There's a gap between what Derek wants and what Houston have offered, but it's bridgeable and the money is decent anyway."

With little interest having been expressed so far for the out-of-contract Easter Road hitman, Riordan may be forced to lower his asking price.

The two parties will also need to find common ground over the nature of the contract, thought to be an initial six-month "probation" with the option for club and player to extend the deal thereafter.

Riordan rejected the club's advances before the American league's April transfer deadline. Dynamo are now looking to tie up Riordan when the transfer window reopens next month.
