Preston fail to ease fear of the drop

The battle against relegation continues for both Preston Athletic and Selkirk after the bottom two clubs drew 1-1 in a tense, and sometimes nervous, East of Scotland Seniors Central Taxis Premier Division encounter at the Pennypit.

Neither side controlled the contest and as a result the outcome was about right. Preston's Bryan Wilson almost found Stuart Miller with a cut-back then, in the last minute of the half, Selkirk thought that they had taken the lead when Jason Cockburn bulleted in a header but was flagged for offside. Selkirk did take the lead on the hour mark when Preston's goalkeeper Ross Gilpin upended Des Sutherland in the penalty box and received a yellow card. Grant Gass dispatched the resultant spot kick.

Preston rallied and equalised 15 minutes later when a Wilson cross was hit back into the danger area by Martin Laidlaw and Miller was perfectly placed to slot the ball past John Dodds. Selkirk almost stole victory in the final minute when Jamie Gibson was through but Gilpin pushed his shot to safety.
