BT Cup round up: Gala lead the way on day for favourites

Gala flew out of the blocks in the first half to set up a win in the BT Cup against GHA yesterday.

The Maroons headed to Braidholm wary of an upset from their BT National Division League One opponents and were clearly not up for a shock. Craig Robertson scored an early converted try and then GHA had a man yellow-carded. Paul Hendry then bagged a quick try double for Gala to put them 19-0 up. A try from Rob Louw, converted by Gregor Hunter, made it 26-0 before GHA got on the scoreboard before the break when former Scotland Sevens man Peter Jericevich managed a converted try. After the break Gala added a fifth try, but a yellow card for Matt Carryer allowed GHA to cross again and pull things back to 31-14.

A number of other round two clashes took place yesterday.

Former Scotland Sevens cap Alex Glashan was amongst the try scorers as Edinburgh Accies progressed 30-0 at The Gytes against Peebles.

Dougie Steele, Jordan Edmunds and Grant McConnell all bagged tries as Boroughmuir, cup winners two years ago, safely negotiated a trip to Ardrossan Accies 45-10.

Dundee HSFP also came out on top on the road, defeating Cartha Queens Park 25-9 while Stirling County win 50-10 at Whitecraigs.

In an end-to-end encounter at Musselburgh, visitors Kirkcaldy managed to come out on top 32-27 while Highland battled hard at Old Anniesland, but Glasgow Hawks emerged 48-14 winners.

Rory Hutton returned from injury as Hawick defeated Marr, with Watsonians getting the better of Selkirk 36-14 at Myreside.

Greenock Wanderers forfeited their tie at Aberdeen Grammar.
