Semi-final defeat for Susan Egelstaff in Austria

BADMINTON: Glasgow's Susan Egelstaff, the Bank of Scotland International champion, missed out on the chance of a second European circuit title of the season when she lost in the semi-finals of the Austrian International Challenge yesterday in Vienna.

Seeded No2, Egelstaff went out 21-14, 21-14 to the No4 seed from Indonesia, Fransisca Ratnasari.

The next tournament for Egelstaff is he Yonex All-England Open starting in Birmingham next week.

In the women's doubles, the unseeded Edinburgh pair of Emma Mason and Jillie Cooper were surprise semi-finalists.Their giant-killing run came to an end in a 24-22, 21-15 defeat by Japan's Naoko Futuna and Minatsa Mitani.
