Welfare earn a canny win

WHITEHILL WELFARE defended resolutely during the initial stages of this Scottish Cup, first round tie at Lossiemouth before breaking the deadlock ten minutes before half-time.

Youngster Danny Taylor fed Scott Gormley whose cross allowed Andrew Kidd to bullet a header into the net.

Gormley had a chance to make it two but the Lossiemouth goalkeeper McConnachie saved well before Kidd fired the rebound over the bar.

In the second half Whitehill were awarded a penalty after Jordan Hall was brought down but Kidd saw his spot-kick well saved by McConnachie. In the 80th minute, Whitehill ensured their passage into the next round when when a loose ball in the Lossiemouth penalty box was lashed into the net by Hall from 12 yards.

"We showed signs of getting back to where we were at the beginning of the season," said Whitehill manager, Paul Cavanagh. "We showed togetherness, we played to our game plan and every player stuck to their tasks."
