Festival review: Magdalena Reising - Blue Cafe Jazz; The Jazz Bar (venue 57)
What an odd show this is. Magdalena Reising is a singer, songwriter and harpist with, on the evidence of her 2012 Fringe show, a penchant for the folk or traditional songs of Poland (where her parents came from) and Scotland (where she was born), as well as a bit of an angel fixation.
Her harp is called Queen Gabriella (she says that’s an interesting story, but “interesting” is overstating the case).
The show is a strange mix of all the above, and would be more enjoyable if she stuck to one aspect – her unusual swing versions of traditional Scottish songs were the highlights.
